TPO Roofing in Atlanta, GA
Advanced Roofing & Paving installs, replaces and repairs TPO roofing on flat and low-slope commercial buildings across Metro Atlanta. Our crews heat-weld every seam and detail every curb, wall and penetration so the membrane performs as the manufacturer intended.
What Is TPO Roofing?
TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is a single-ply roofing membrane. Sheets are rolled out over insulation, attached to the roof, and joined with hot-air welded seams that fuse the membrane into one continuous surface. Most TPO is white, which reflects sunlight and reduces heat gain.
Where TPO Works Best
Warehouses and distribution centers with large, open flat roofs
Office buildings and medical offices
Industrial buildings without heavy
chemical exposure
over projects over a dry existing roof, where codes allow
Key Components of a TPO Roof System
- Insulation board, often polyiso, with tapered insulation where drainage needs slope
- Cover board where specified, for puncture and hail resistance
- TPO membrane in the thickness specified for the project
- Mechanically fastened, fully adhered or induction-welded, depending on the building and wind design
- Heat-welded seams and flashings at walls, curbs and penetrations
- Edge metal and drains that finish and drain the roof
Advantages of TPO
Reflective surface
white TPO reflects sunlight, helping keep interiors cooler in Georgia summers.
Welded seams
hot-air welds fuse seams rather than relying on tape or adhesive
Lightweight
suitable for recovers and for buildings with limited structural capacity
Repairable
clean TPO can be patched and re-welded
Limitations to Consider
- Seam quality depends heavily on installer skill and welding conditions
- Formulations differ between manufacturers, so product choice matters
- Surfaces with regular grease exhaust or chemical exposure may need a different membrane
- Aged, dirty TPO is harder to weld, so repairs need proper cleaning and preparation
TPO Roof Installation
- Inspect the deck and existing roof; scan for moisture on recovers
- Install insulation and cover board to the specified insulation value
- Lay and attach the membrane by the specified method
- Hot-air weld and probe-test every seam
- Flash walls, curbs, drains and penetrations
- Install edge metal and complete a final walkthrough
TPO Roof Repair
Common TPO problems include open seams, punctures from foot traffic or dropped tools, failed flashing at curbs and shrinkage at the perimeter. We clean and prepare the membrane, then weld compatible patches or re-weld seams. See commercial roof repair for our full leak-tracing process.
TPO Maintenance
Keep drains clear, limit foot traffic to walkway areas, and have seams and flashings checked on a schedule. Our commercial roof maintenance programs cover all of this.

QUESTIONS
TPO Roofing FAQs
Service life depends on membrane thickness, installation quality, exposure and maintenance. Compare the manufacturer warranty term offered with each option. See roof warranties.
Often, if the existing roof is mostly dry and only one roof layer is in place. An infrared scan helps confirm that.
Yes. Clean, prepared TPO can be patched and re-welded. Very old or dirty membrane may need more preparation.
Neither is better for every building. TPO offers a reflective white surface and welded seams; EPDM is a proven rubber membrane with a long track record. We recommend based on your roof.
It depends on roof size, insulation, attachment method, tear-off needs and access. We provide a free written estimate after inspection.
